Project in Barcelona: Renovation of a Historic Building with MicroQuarz by Francis Santiago

In this project, we faced the challenge of renovating the floor of an apartment in a historic building in Barcelona, characterized by its wooden beams and architectural heritage. The choice of MicroQuarz® was key due to its high flexibility, allowing us to adapt perfectly to the building’s conditions without compromising its structural integrity.

Detailed Renovation Process: Preparation and Application of MicroQuarz for a Long-Lasting Finish

The work began by patching a groove in the floor using products from Weber. The hydraulic tiles that needed to be covered were meticulously prepared: the surface was opened up and the joints were filled to ensure a uniform finish. Afterwards, we applied a coat of Primer AH epoxy resin to regulate substrate absorption.

To guarantee the durability of the coating, we applied a layer of Hard Base with an 80-gram mesh to reinforce the floor structure. Then, we applied two base coats and one fine coat in color MQ23 from the Classic system, achieving an elegant and long-lasting finish.

Floor Renovation with MicroQuarz: Flexible and Durable Finish

To ensure the resistance and durability of the finish, one coat of Barniz Primer Finish and two coats of Radiant were applied, providing additional protection against wear and a flawless aesthetic.

Thanks to the MicroQuarz system, this historic building now features a modern and durable surface while preserving its original essence and respecting its traditional architecture.

The Perfect Combination: Hydraulic Tiles and MicroQuarz®

In this project, we achieved a flawless integration between the original hydraulic tiles and the MicroQuarz coating, creating a unique surface that combines the best of both materials. The tiles, with their traditional aesthetics and characteristic designs, added a touch of authenticity and vintage style to the space. At the same time, MicroQuarz contributed its flexibility and durability.

The treatment process of the tiles — from joint preparation to the application of the Clasic MQ23 system — made it possible to preserve their essence while unifying the entire floor with a continuous, elegant, and functional finish. This combination resulted in a space that perfectly balances tradition and modernity, ideal for those who wish to preserve classic elements without sacrificing innovation in materials.

The Result

The project in this historic building in Barcelona has exceeded our expectations, achieving a perfect balance between aesthetics, functionality, and respect for the original architecture. Thanks to the flexibility of MicroQuarz, we were able to adapt to the structural requirements of the wooden beams and other elements typical of an old construction.

MAIN ACHIEVEMENTS:

• Homogeneous and elegant finish using color MQ23, perfectly integrated with the building’s style.

• Durable and resistant surface, ready for daily use without compromising its integrity.

• Structural reinforcement with 80 g mesh and Hard Base layer, ensuring stability and long-term performance of the coating.

• Application of an advanced protection system with Primer Finish varnish and two coats of Radiant, providing enhanced wear resistance and excellent preservation of the finish.

• Improvement in energy efficiency and comfort, thanks to the thermal and insulating properties of the coating.

This project has not only renewed the surface but also preserved the building’s historical essence, giving it a second life with a modern appearance and superior performance.
